Last Flight

September 25, 2012

Last week I had an once in a lifetime experience happen that left me in awe.
It was one of those moments where your emotions go hay wire and you can't seem to shake it.
One moment I was on the verge of tears and the next I was so excited, hopping around like a little girl.  Seeing the Endeavour make it's last flight over the skies of Houston and the surrounding areas was so incredible.

I never thought in a million years I would have the opportunity to see one of the most amazing pieces of engineering flying through the sky better yet right outside my front door.  It was such a surreal experience and one that I will never forget.

If it wasn't for social media I wouldn't of even known about this and would of completely missed the opportunity of a life time. In between being an emotional wreck and running around my condominium complex taking as many pictures as possible I couldn't help but feel overwhelmingly happy. It was like I was a kid on Christmas, or at least that's what anyone would tell you who spoke to me during that time frame. I was lucky enough to catch it on video to give you an idea of how close it was in proximity to me and this video isn't zoomed in at all.

Endeavour Facts

It flew it's last mission in 2011 and is now retired.
It's new home is now located in California at the California Science Center.
This space shuttle was the only space shuttle to have been named by children.
This was the last of 3 space shuttles that are now retired due to NASA's retirement.

So you can see why it was such an emotional time for me.. To experience seeing my first and last space shuttle at the very same time in flight was so amazing and if it wasn't for Eric's job bringing us here it wouldn't of ever been possible. God's timing is always so perfect.

  2. I always wanted to see a space shuttle take off. Sadly that will never happen now, but I think this is just too cool! It scares me though how slow that thing was flying!

  6. My husband took our 8 year old son to NASA to experience this! They were both so excited and left a couple hours early. Our son couldn't stop talking about it! :)

  7. That is so awesome you got pics! We were at home sick with a day care bug and were watching the news about it. They said if you hear the jets, not to be alarmed, they're just escorting it. Sure enough we heard the jet engines and I opened the window just in time to see it fly by! SO AWESOME. Surprisingly I didn't think to whip out my phone, I just started jumping and yelling!
