Menu Help!?

August 06, 2012

Alright all you fabulous menu planning ladies out there; I need your help. As you might of read in previous posts, I start becoming a housewife in less than 2 weeks with more emphasis on house than wife, but that's not the point. :) The point is that I haven't done much cooking in my 20 years of living and I want to start by planning out our menu for each week, so I need some easy dinner ideas!

Yes, I could just browse the internet all day, but that wouldn't be as much fun + I want to hear what some of your favorite dinners are to make each week. Help a girl out? :) If you have any recipes you'd like to share feel free to email them to me as well :) I'd love to start up a little recipe book!

  1. When I was first married we had tacos and pizza every week! Since then I've started to venture out and experiment a bit more.

Have you thought of crock pot cooking? It's hard to screw up when you throw everything together in a pot and let it sit all day. :)

I have a few crock pot recipes on my blog, the chicken fajitas are one of my favorites:

    Good luck to you!

  2. I only go to the store 2 times a month because of our menu! I layed it all out for my readers here...

    take a look!

  3. Tacos are so easy to make and the ingredients are easily transferrable to different dishes throughout the week like enchiladas or tostadas or quesadillas. I have a food blog where I feature some of my own recipes as well as feature other food bloggers that I love. One of my faves is the Joy the Baker I'd love if you stopped by sometime! Inspiration to be found! Congrats on the new changes going on in your life!!!!

  4. I try to cook 4 nights a week (M-T) and my husband cooks on Sundays. I do one italian, one mexican, one american and one hispanic and then Sunday's are always homemade pizza or hotdogs.
For Italian it's usually pasta with chicken or some variation of the sort.
Mexican mixes between tacos, fajitas, flautas or enchiladas.
American is something like meatloaf or pot roast or baked chicken and potatoes.
And hispanic (we're hispanic) is something with rice. haha!
It works well to have a genre and pull from there... plus it helps to mix it up a bit... we wont eat pasta twice in one week. Pasta is just so easy that if you're not intentional about it, you'll eat it too much!
Good luck... it get's easier as you go!

  5. When we were first married, we only ever ate stir fry or chicken pot pie because that's all I cared to cook.
Once I started my own recipe index on my blog, I started trying and stockpiling the ones I liked. So keep a directory somewhere that you can reference (I hate writing down recipes).
When my husband's here, I try to do a pasta or pizza (homemade) recipe, a chicken recipe, a beef recipe, and a veggie heavy recipe per week. Variety! Of course, in the winter I do a lot of soup and in the summer more salads. I think the key is holding on to recipes you love so you don't forget to make them again!
    Good luck :)

  6. Easy meals are pasta, cheeseburgers, pizza, shake n bake chicken or pork chops. I like to try to do veggies but my husband is picky and only eats corn and sometimes peas but it has to be from a can. Also, grilled cheese or grilled ham & cheese is good.

I have some recipes on my blog if your interested. I really learn a lot from pinterest! And my husband is so happy !

  7. new follower! adore your blog!

  11. In my house, we're big fans of quick and easy meals haha. I'd definitely recommend a Crock-Pot. Those meals are probably the easiest but they taste amazing. I'll look through my favorite recipes and email you some!

All I can cook are eggs and pasta.

  13. I am no whizz in the kitchen and my husband does in the cooking. But two easy meals I love are Baked Apples for dessert and Cheesy Bacon Soup. I have had so many people make this soup on my recommendation and love it- give it a go and let me know what you think. Probably more of a winter meal however :P

  14. This has been the hardest part for me too...we've been married two years and I still don't have it under wraps completely! :)

    Thanks for linking up today!

  15. I love the crockin' girls website and their crockpot recipes! super easy & delish!
Their Chicken in a Hurry & spaghetti sauce are really good!!

  16. I totally second what Ashley said at the top, crockpots are AMAZING.

  17. My hubbs & I cook at home a lot! It saves lots of money and is a bonding thing for us!
Here are a couple of links to posts on my blog with recipes we use a LOT

I highly recommend putting the name of the recipe on one side of an index card & a basic break down of the recipe on the back (I dont usually need all the details to make it and it saves me time). This keeps me from getting into a rut with my meals. I have different categories for the cards: easy, time consuming preperations, crock pot and "healthy" (usually a gluten free or vegan dish for once a week).

    Good luck!

  18. Oooh! Congrats on becoming a housewife in 2 weeks! I love menu planning. It has seriously saved my life because I hate grocery shopping. Stop by my blog and check out my pinterest board, all my recipes are super easy and really good. I'd also definitely recommend making a Menu Board or something that displays the dinners so that there is no confusion as to what you're eating that night.

PS: Would love for you to check out details of a new, fun link up I'm co-hosting on my blog.
