Realizations [Blog Hiatus]

October 18, 2012

It's been a few days since I've wrote a genuine post. In fact, I have been avoiding the computer for the past week for a number of reasons. It is without a doubt getting harder and harder to find things to write about and to share with you because lets face it, nothing exciting comes out of sitting at home all day and watching vampire diaries. Over the last month I have felt that I am just posting to post without any idea as to why other than maybe to gain a new follower or two which works somehow, but to be completely honest I don't feel as if I'm captivating my readers attention enough to continue to read along.  Yes, I may have 1500+ followers, but in reality only a handful even read my posts which has me feeling that I must be doing something wrong in order to steer readers away.  Traffic on this blog is not what it used to be and although I can attribute that to lack of writing there is something that is said of that whether I choose to see it or not.

I am approaching my 1 year blogiversary in November and have been promoting it like crazy to round up some fellow bloggers to help me in celebrating, but there is a small part of me that feels as if I just wanted this giveaway to drive traffic more than I did to celebrate which gets me to thinking why we even do giveaways in the first place. I already answered that and honestly although it may be driving traffic and new followers what majority of them are actually stopping by to form a relationship and are there to read your blog? What I'm really trying to say is that I will be taking a blog hiatus until something worth writing happens or is revealed to me, however there will be a few giveaways in the mean time along with a reveiw or two.

I need this break to live life a little more and not to be constantly snapping a picture for a blog post. If anything I feel that this break will do me a lot of good.  In a sense I feel that I need a fresh start and this is my chance to remember why I even began blogging in the first place.  I guess it's safe to say that you should expect a few changes, but in the mean time I will still be checking my email and other social media outlets, I just won't be posting!

  3. I think I've done 3 giveaways in 2 1/2 years. I'm planning one for next month, but it's to thank the loyal readers I've formed relationships with. I truly believe that followers are one thing and readers are another. I'd rather have people stop by and read what I have to say rather than follow me from their blog/whether they have a blog or not.
While I'd prefer to write good stuff, I know I need to stop posting everyday. Worthwhile blogging material is hard to come by sometimes.

  4. Good for you for taking time to live life for yourself, rather than for a blog post.

I had great writing material every.single.day. for about 8 months. Then? All my inspiration dried up and I blogged MAYBE ten times in two month period. But now that I'm back? I feel great about my writing and life.

So, take time for yourself. Your loyal readers will be here when you get back.

    xo

  8. Although I wouldn't mind reading a few posts dedicated to Vampire Diaries...this makes perfect sense. It's easy to get burned out. I love your blog though and I can't wait for you to return!

  11. You know, you've got something good. I've been blogging for 1.5 years and this past summer the giveaways have been crazy, but as it does drive traffic and pump up numbers the genuine relationships seem to have dissipated, which is a bit disheartening. I have, and still do participate in giveaways, but started a new blog that is not polluted as a way to start over with a fresh new perspective and direction.

  12. I haven't even been blogging that long but I definitely understand that you need to have something you're inspired by so you can inspire others. I've been guilty of getting caught up in posting every day or linking up every week to the point that you're scrambling to come up with something. If I don't want to write it (or it's forced) how can I expect someone else to want to read it. I hope you take the time you need for yourself and do what makes you happy. And if it's something worth writing about, we're here to listen.

  13. I totally understand that! I think that once blogging becomes more like work instead of enjoyable, it's a good idea to take a step back!

  14. You'll be missed Bre! I know what you mean about the follower count and for that reason, I choose not to really participate in multiple link ups or even host because I want all my participation to always be genuine with my readers. I of course do Me, Myself and I because I love that one personally but I do find that I will skip blogs that constantly do giveaways or hops. As a reader I enjoy more content and to know more about them, their lives and their skills. You have a lot of offer and I think you'll come back reinvigorated. I look froward to reading more when you come back!

  17. I've been feeling that way lately and I have no where near as many followers as you. It's nice to have followers but you're right; I want them to be reading about me because they find me interesting.

I'llmiss seeing your updates but do what you have to do!
